Currently, the waning supply of fossil fuels, their volatile effects on socio-political situations around the world, and their detrimental environmental impacts, such as the accumulation of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, explain why the unabated use of fossil fuels is unsustainable.

However, energy is the life blood of our modern society. It helps us drive our cars, helps to heat our homes, electrify our buildings, helps to run our personal computers and appliances as well as a fast array of industries. Therefore, it is no surprise that we have sought out new ways to electrify and power the way we live.
